Jodie was born and raised in Perth. She would incessantly spout animal facts at her long-suffering family from an early age, so no one was shocked when she decided to pursue a career with animals. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Biological Science and Conservation and Wildlife Biology, followed by a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing from AVT.
With over 15 years of experience in veterinary hospitals, Jodie has worked with a wide range of species, including birds, pocket pets, horses, farm animals, and native wildlife. Before joining AVT as a Student Services Officer, she managed a busy exotics and small animal hospital. A “forever student”, she is currently studying a Graduate Diploma in Psychology and a certificate in Auslan (Australian Sign Language). Jodie has a keen interest in behaviour, animal and human alike.
At AVT, she is known for her empathy towards students in balancing study, work, and life. She is passionate about psychology and how it relates to education, advocating for equality and equity in learning. She approaches all interactions with curiosity and kindness.
A self-proclaimed “animal behaviour nerd”, Jodie loves positive reinforcement training. Jodie is owned by a clicker-trained brumby gelding who went from a wild stallion to a (usually) well-behaved and beloved family pony.
